Achieving Superior Growth in Uncertain Times

by Daniel DiSano
The macroeconomy is clearly performing better than two years ago, when we were in the middle of the worse recession of our lifetimes. Though the market has recovered, it hasn’t achieved the growth to date we are all hoping for. In particular, unemployment remains far too high, the housing market is still experiencing weakness, and the credit markets have yet to return to pre-recession levels.  Read More

The Importance of Vacation

by Daniel DiSano
I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely the type of person who can become so focused that I sometimes forget the importance of taking a vacation and recharging the batteries. I’m currently on a plane, flying home from my favorite place to get away, St. Bart’s. I could write a year’s worth of blogs on why St. Bart’s is so special to me and feels like my home away from home, but it doesn’t matter where you go or what you do, as long as you find your peace and relaxation.  Read More

Moving Forward

by Daniel DiSano
I recently heard a quote from Gordon Bethune, the former CEO and Chairman of Continental Airlines. He said “Do you know why a Boeing airplane has no rearview mirrors? Because you don’t need to look behind you when you’re flying 500 mph!” I love the metaphor; he is obviously saying don’t dwell in the past. I agree with Gordon, but also believe the past is important. As leaders, we need to understand the past; what occurred, what decisions worked well and paid dividends, and most importantly what didn’t work well.  Read More

Partnership Begins With Trust

by Daniel DiSano
Axispoint’s corporate vision is “To be the trusted technology partner to our clients.” We have been embarking on this vision for years. It’s the overarching theme that drives our culture and business. Though the words seem simple enough, it is extraordinarily difficult to achieve true partnership with your clients. In the IT world, the word vendor is often heard and used by companies looking to employ technology services. I cannot stand this word! A vendor to me implies an arms length relationship, low value provider, procurement, etc.  Read More

Peer-to-Peer Learning

by Daniel DiSano
I am a proud member of Young President’s Organization (YPO), a leading network of 18,000 CEOs worldwide. We recently held our Global Leadership Conference and Summit in Denver, CO which brought together more than 2,000 CEOs from across the globe.  Read More

Passion

by Daniel DiSano
I’m on my way to YPO’s Global Leadership Conference in Denver, CO where over 2,000 CEOs from across the globe will come together to teach, learn, network and grow. During my five hour delay at NYC’s LaGuardia Airport (yet another snow storm in NY), I have been thinking about common threads among these CEOs, and how they might help others grow their businesses. YPO attracts three types of leaders: Entrepreneurs, Professional Managers (Hired Guns), and Family Business Executives. They come from different cultures, walks of life, religions, education, political views, etc.  Read More

Dr. Peter Gil

by Daniel DiSano
Last year, someone who greatly influenced my life and probably didn’t know it, passed away. His name is Dr. Peter Gil, and we are approaching the one year anniversary of his passing. Dr. Gil was born in 1922 in Havana, Cuba. He came to the United States when he was young, was a combat veteran in the European Theater, and went on to earn degrees from both Harvard and Harvard Business School. He was truly a self-starter, an entrepreneur, a strategic thinker, and an innovator in the field of education.  Read More

Momentum

by Daniel DiSano
Momentum is clearly underrated. In sports, you can almost see and certainly can feel momentum swings and how they can drive teams to victory. Take basketball for example. Momentum swings can happen because of a key 3 pointer made or a blocked shot at an ideal part of the game that sparked the team to succeed. Though pivotal moments can lead teams to victory, I don’t believe they all happen because of circumstance. For that basketball player to hit the key 3 pointer, steal the ball, block the shot, it took years and years of practice, hard work, strategy, intelligence and will.  Read More

Happy New Year!

by Daniel DiSano
Happy New Year Everyone – I hope you had a wonderful holiday season! The recession is over, business and the market are coming back and poised for growth, and there seems to be a certain buzz in the air that we haven’t experienced at the beginning of the last two years. Even though the economy is far from perfect (e.g., we still need to create more jobs), it is always nice to begin the year with energy, excitement and a fire in the belly that only hope and optimism can spark. I wish you a healthy, happy, and prosperous 2011!  Read More

Axispoint's Strategy

by Daniel DiSano
I view 2010 as a rebound year. At Axispoint, we experienced unprecedented growth through and including 2008. Last year, we had our first dip, but we made a strategic decision to invest during the recession in such high growth areas as Axiscare, our Managed Services offering, Collaboration, and Enterprise 2.0. Even though we experienced a decline, we thought outside the box and made a concerted effort to invest in future growth.  Read More
